Bon voyage, Spirit of Canada!

The speed of our TomCat 24 paid off in spades the other day when At Last! was the only vessel from Fairport Yacht Club that was able to locate and catch up to Spirit of Canada as she reached down Lake Ontario to begin a voyage to France and the start of the Vendee Globe singlehanded nonstop round-the-world race.

Fairport Yacht Club hoped to send a flotilla to greet Derek Hatfield, Spirit of Canada's skipper, soon after he departed his home port at Port Credit Yacht Club. Close to 10 yachts left the dock but were unable to catch up with Spirit as she reached along at 10 knots. Only At Last! managed to rendezvous with the Open 60 some five miles offshore.
